Does watching porn numb you to sex?

In the past, masturbation was considered a negative practice. Later it was shown that it was not so. Homey, the focus has been on the consumption of pornography: there is a popular belief that watching erotic videos finally numbs you to sex, it accustoms you to contemplate it, to the point that it will be more difficult for you to get excited in the real world.

This hypothesis suffers from the same psychological drift that argues that the consumption of violent films produces more real violence, when the only thing demonstrated is that consuming a lot of television could cause this phenomenon (regardless of what is consumed). A new study carried out by the University of California in Los Angeles (USA) and the University of Concordia (Canada) has shown that it is unlikely that seeing erotic content causes erection problems or erotic numbness: rather it can help to turn us on more easily.

Nicole Prause Y Jim Pfaus conducted an examination of data from previous studies regarding the effect of eroticism on sexual arousal with a total of 280 participants of which 127 of them had a stable partner, publishing their results in the journal The Journal of Sexual Medicine. Participants underwent a questionnaire about their sexual habits (including the International Index of Erectile Function), their sexual desire and the average number of hours a week they had seen movies of sexual content. As Prause concludes:

When we analyzed the data from these previous studies, we found that men who had seen more sex movies at home were more excited than when they saw sex movies in the laboratory.
